Big Naps!

Something big is going on. Derek slept 4.5 hours in naps today! I think he is in the middle of another growth spurt.

Derek has been extra snuggly the last few days. He is also climbing or trying to climb everything: up on the couch, on chairs and the library, the fireplace hearth, and on smaller tables. Silly boy. He is also learning his boundaries. He will walk up to something that is a "no touch," wait to see me watch him, and then touch it. There is a battle of wills going on and so far Mommy is winning. He is trying to wear me down though. One day after repeating no touch 10 times in 15 minutes he finally gave up. Of course, he did cry each time with big crocodile tears running down his face. This tough love is hard! There are also the times he does something he knows is naughty and I am laughing so hard but I am trying to hide it from him. This boy is a riot.

Building

Ah Derek... our crazy little guy. He loves to build. He is learning how to stack his blocks and is doing really well. Our sweet boy is such a smily guy.

Coming in for snuggle

Derek has been very snuggly lately. Part of it may be that he has stopped nursing, but mainly it is just that he is a snuggler. He will be running around and then run up to either Mike or I and bury his head in our chest. He seems to plow into Mike but be gentler with me. It is all very sweet and does a number on your heart. As he gets more tired, the times between snuggles shortens though even when awake he comes in for a snuggle a ton. He is such a sweet little boy. We just enjoy him so much!

What is over here?

Mmm what is Mommy and Daddy hiding behind the gate? I will climb and find out!

On the couch!

Derek thinks playing on the couch is really cool. He loves to look out the window, point at things and ask what's dat," But this favorite pastime is playing with Daddy. They had a great game of peek-a-boo going. Derek loves his Daddy!

We are so thankful that Derek is feeling completely better and is back to his usual jovial self.

Fun new toy

We found a great new toy for Derek. Sprig toys makes toys out of recycled plastic and wood. They are made in Canada. Derek's truck makes noises and lights up as he pushes it around so no batteries. Derek likes to push, pull, and carry the truck around.

Tooth #5 finally came in. Derek is getting better but is still sick. He even had to miss the play group birthday party yesterday. It was quite weird going to one of your son's birthday parties without him! I had a great time catching up with my mommy friends who have been such a huge part of the last year.

Derek seems to be feeling much better today.

Do I eat the flower?

Daddy bought Mommy a big vase of flowers today. He said it was "just because..." What does this mean? Anyways, Mommy put different flowers by my face. Silly Mommy- she thought I was going to smell them but I tried to put them in my mouth. I liked the rose and the daisy the best. Then she showed me a few more but I didn't like them so I turned my head away. I did spend the rest of dinner just staring at them. How come I just can't put them in my mouth and figure out what I think of them? And why did Mommy and Daddy keep laughing at me?

I have been sick all week but I am close to being all better!
