Derek down!

Ah our little climber. He loves to stand on the hearth and the couch- both off limits. I say at least 10 times a day... Derek down. He has no fear. He is great at the dismount. He goes feet first every time. He even went feet first off our bed. It was a larger drop than he anticipated. His eyes were huge.. but he landed it quite well.

Another day at work

Derek went to work at Nike again and received these cute new shoes. This is the first pair of tennis shoes he fits into (the other pair are still a bit big). I was a tester as well because I still fit into kids' shoes.

Derek is still loving all over the dogs. Unfortunately his hugs are a bit much for them. They love when we leave and they can nap in peace. Most of the time though they are the best of friends.

It is a bittersweet week for us. Our dear friends moved back home to England today. We are so happy for them to return to family but we will dearly miss them. They have been such a wonderful part of our lives this year as we were in the same small group at church. We look forward to seeing them again!

Derek taking care of the dogs

We keep a towel by the door for the doggies. It does rain a lot here so we need to wipe the dogs off on a regular basis. Well Derek must have been observing this because today he picked up the towel from the chair and proceeded to "Wipe" down the dogs after they came in. It was pretty hysterical and very cute. then he just wondered off with the towel. Crazy kid! MIke and I were laughing pretty hard and the pictures are rather blurry. Sorry!

The tickle monster, the potty, and other misc.

We got Derek a potty. Don't worry I have no illusions that he will be potty-trained anytime soon but we wanted him to get used to seeing it. He is not sure he likes to sit on yet. He does, however, enjoy carrying it around. This could get interesting when he actually starts to use it but that is for another day...and another post.

Derek has started hitting. We say no hit but he thinks it is pretty hysterical. His favorite weapon is a spoon or a water bottle. So I have started a collection on the mantle of his weapons.

Derek is so ticklish especially when he is tired. We love the giggles. We need to capture them on video.

He is sleeping a ton lately, I am not if he is making up sleep, teething, or just tired. I am just enjoying it!

More Seattle...lots of firsts

We had a great day exploring Seattle. Derek took his first streetcar ride. I think he enjoyed not being in a car seat. Then he took his first monorail to the Seattle Center. Derek loved the carousal ride in the comfort of the ergo.

We went to Pike Place! We enjoyed seeing the first Starbucks and getting a mocha there. We had lunch at Pike Place as well. Derek was a great trooper as we toured around!

It was a wonderful trip. Traveling with a little one certainly changes everything. We didn't plan too much to do and spent a ton of downtime which worked well. Gone are the days of rushing to see everything! Derek did great on the 3.5 hour car ride. He is a great little traveler. As much as we enjoy traveling, there is nothing like being at home and sleeping in your own bed!

Fun hotel

Derek made himself right at home in the hotel. We took him to the pool. He enjoyed the kiddie pool there.. and the water was warmer than the big pool. Back in the room, Derek quickly found the pots and pans in the kitchen as well as the spoon and started banging away. So much excitement! Apparently the pool and the pans were so much fun he didn't want to go to bed and partied until 11 at night. Ahh Derek. He just loves his crib at home and doesn't sleep so well anywhere else. Thankfully he did sleep until 7 the next morning and woke up ready to start banging away on his pans. He did enjoy the hotel breakfast. He ate eggs, potatoes, sausage, yogurt, waffles, and fruit! Where does he put it all?

Bainbridge Island

We spent a wonderful afternoon on Bainbridge Island. We took a ferry ride. Derek loved the ride. He enjoyed running up and down the aisles. Once on the island we played a fun park. so Derek could stretch his legs. We enjoyed driving around the island and seeing the beauty of it.

Bye bye Grandma

We had a great visit with my mom. Derek had so much fun playing with Grandma. Some of the highlights and lowlights were:
-Giving Grandma the flu and then helping her get better
-lots and lots of playtimes
-climbing on top of Grandma to get higher on the couch-
-date night for us!
-lots of Settlers, Ticket to Ride, and card games after Derek went to bed
-love of love from Grandma!

We love you Grandma. Have a safe trip home!

Everybody loves on Grandma

Safe...

Not safe...

So this is how my toy works!

Derek figured out his toy. Up to now he has been taking the pieces off, but last week he figured out how to put them back on. He found out it is easier if his finger was not in the hole of each piece. He would get so excited each time a piece would fall on and squeal.I think the secret must be his tongue. He has been sticking it out to concentrate lately!

As I write this, he is giggling because he has climbed the up on the couch and is looking out the window with the dogs. What victory! We are just glad that he has a safe exit strategy that he sometimes employs. Yesterday not so much.. he slid off using his head as the stopper. He was fine- just a bit stunned.

By the way, Grandma is coming tomorrow! Grandma is coming tomorrow! We are so excited! Plus Mike has off all next week to spend with all of us!

Climbing again...

I went out for a girls' night last night to celebrate a few friends' birthdays. It was great to be with the girls. The boys had quite a night too. Derek was playing with his toy cart that arrived from Texas yesterday. Then he climbed up it and started to climb over the pillows to Alex on the couch. Mike was able to grab photos of the whole deal while laughing and trying to protect Derek from killing himself. They had a fun night.

Today Derek decided to climb on top of his play table and stand on it to peer over at Alex. I "helped" him off it. He then went and tried to get up on the couch to be my Lucky.

We have a monkey on the loose!

Mommy made me work today

Mommy made me go to work today. I was a fitter for Nike shoes. I was a great sport and tried on about 8-10 pairs while they checked the fit, watched me walk around in them, and took pictures of my feet. Silly people- don't you realize you are supposed to take pictures of my face? At the end they gave me some treats and then I got to pick out a pair of shoes to take home. Mommy helped me pick out some cool tennis shoes. We might even go back in a few weeks and do it again.

Super bowl fun

We had lots of fun watching the super bowl. Derek loved to play with Daddy on the couch during the game. Derek also enjoyed lots and lots of guacamole as you can see. It was a nice relaxing day at home as Mike and Derek were a bit under the weather.
