Texas

We just returned from spending a few days in Texas with Mike's family. Derek was a great traveler all around. One highlight was the piano. Derek loved to bang on the keys. He also loved swimming (in the evenings when it cooled off). Mike's parents bought Derek a fun lobster to float in the pool. Derek loved it. We are very excited that he loves the pool because Derek and I start mommy and me swim lessons next week.

Mike also took off this week so we are doing some fun little trips. It is our first family vacation! More pics to come...

FIrst Camping Trip

We are home from our first camping trip. We had a great time. After arriving and setting up camp, we ate dinner. Mike had just started a fire to enjoy as it got dark when it started raining. It didn't stop until we were home. Despite the rain, we had fun. We played games in the tent, Derek rolled and crawled to explore the whole tent, and the dogs made their own fun. Derek was awesome and slept most of the night in his pack and play until it got really cold in the morning and he bunked with me. Our first ever camping trip was a success (Ie we stayed all night and didn't give up).

Favorite comment overheard at the campground. Dad to sons... stop drinking that water. Do you want to be up all night pooping? We laughed and laughed.

Rain rain rain

It is raining this week. It feels nice to have cool temps after last week plus we need the rain. The dogs are antsy due to fewer walks.

Derek loves books. He is a big fan of the touch and feel ones. Of course, all books eventually make it into his mouth.

Here is a photo of our fridge. Derek loves to chew on his fisher price animals so Mike put several of them in the fridge thinking it would feel better on his sore gums. I laughed really hard when I opened the door and saw animals on every surface. Between the animals and Derek's baby food, our fridge is getting full.

We also went to the park last week. Derek loves the swings!

Camping in the Living Room

We are going to attempt to go camping next weekend. 2 adults, a baby, and 2 dogs will not fit in our 3 man tent so we got Big Agnus. This tent is huge - about 90 square feet. We should all fit nicely. We are only going for one night to see how this all works and if anyone will get any sleep.

I am happy to report we are all healthy again. Mike was sick Thursday afternoon until Friday morning. Then Derek got his ear infection Friday (after not sleeping Thursday night). I got sick Friday afternoon (I think from eating my birthday leftovers). I was sick until this morning. I don't think I have ever felt this miserable in my whole life apart from the first 48 hours after my c-section. MIke was amazing! He took care of everything. I spent most of the time in bed because even sitting up made me sick. It is good to feel great again. We are all happy and heathy again.

Derek is sick

Our little Derek is sick. We went to the doctor today after having a 103 degree fever and he has an ear infection. He is still smiling most of the time but then cries in pain. Hopefully his medication will kick in quickly. He is sleeping lots to try to deal with it all. Please pray for quick healing for our little buddy.

Tualatin Crawfish Festival

Last night we went to the Tualatin Crawfish Festival in our sleepy town. It was a riot. There were several restaurants that were in a competition for best foods with crawfish in it. We tried all the entries. The whole crawfish was a bit too exotic for me. I did try it though- it was just fishy tasting. The cracking it open and his beady eyes nearly did me in. We saw several people eating them by the handful as you could buy them by the dozen. Gross.

I thought it was hysterical that you could rent a kayak and paddle Lake Tualatin (all 100 feet and 18 inches deep of it). It was only $1. Then again how much can you really paddle on that lake?

All in all it was fun. Derek was a trooper and hung out in his carrier. We saw some friends and enjoyed the nice weather.

The family picture is from last week in Portland.

Happy again

Derek is back to his happy self again. After Mike came home last night everything was alright again. He even slept really well last night and slept through the night. Yeah Derek!

Brett a Jet?

The latest Packer drama seems to have a conclusion: Brett Favre is now a Jet. It will be odd to see him in a Jet uniform this season. I just wish he had stayed retired. But then again, there just may be Packer fans that now realize that Brett Favre is a human being and not a deity. The truth hurts sometimes.

Brett Favre will always be a Packer legend to me.

A bit off

Derek is a bit off today. It all started last night. After finally getting to sleep rather late (probably due to a long nap), he was up at 11, 12:30, and 2:30. From 2:30-4:00 I was up with him as he was up every 20 minutes. I finally brought him into bed with us and we both slept until 7:00. Today he has a runny nose and is just a bit crabby. After not sleeping this morning, I decided we needed to get out. We ran errands all afternoon and he slept the whole time. Now the little guy is doing much better. Hopefully this will lead to a good evening!

I am so spoiled with our usually happy guy. Today made me appreciate how he normally is: a smile for everyone and just plain content. Oops now he is crying again..need to go!

New toys

My Mommy and Daddy bought me (so they say they are for me) new toys. Fun fun fun! I must eat them all.

It's a tooth!

The first tooth is here! It finally appeared Thursday morning. Thursday was a big day for Derek. He also started rolling much more. He now is across the room really quickly. Yesterday at our small group he was on his hands and knees and even attempted a few steps. It was so much fun. Derek's friend Sam also had a big night at small group. He started walking without help. Go babies go!

We had a great weekend. We went to Portland (along with 60,000 other people) for the Red Bull Flugtag on Saturday. It was hysterical watching teams launch their homemade flying machines off a ramp. Derek was a great sport sleeping in the car for both trips. He enjoying watching all the very different types of people that you don't normally see here in the suburbs. I had to pick up my chin a few times. As if anyone was not sure, I am a total suburbs girl and no city slicker.

These fun pics are from the park by our house I took on Saturday.
